Block Party Bash

In honor of the upcoming holiday (Independence Day), we thought a “how-to” block party edition would be appropriate. Block parties, although not as popular as they once were, are a great way to gather the neighborhood for a celebration and good times. Summer holidays are especially great times to get out and about; it’s also the perfect “in” for neighbors to meet one another in a group setting.
The guidelines for orchestrating a block party are fairly simple:
- Visit your city government (it’s not frightening – promise). You will need to do this in order to file the proper application for your party’s permit. This is necessary because a true block party usually entails closing down the roads on the block.
- Decide who to invite. If you live in a small neighborhood you can simply invite everyone; if you live in a larger neighborhood, you may choose to only invite neighbors on the block and those on a neighboring block.
- Get the word out! Create invitations–or even easier–flyers. You can post flyers around the neighborhood or hand-deliver them.
- Organize the food and beverages. The easiest way to do this is to have a “pot-luck” block party.
- Plan outdoor activities. Volleyball, horseshoes and softball are all great games to play with a crowd.
We at Fischer and Frichtel encourage our community members to gather together and build long lasting relationships with one another; it’s what makes a community, a community. The possibilities are endless! When it comes to organizing a block party or neighborhood get together, there’s no better time to throw one than summer…so get out there and mingle!
