To Pool or Not to Pool, That is the Question!

Posted by Elizabeth on July 14, 2011

Making the decision to get a pool is sort of like deciding whether or not to get a pet—there are a number or outlying factors to consider. The list of pros and cons is extensive but we thought we’d provide you with a comparison list of the “key” factors to consider. If your family does choose to get a pool the amount of work required is substantial; but if you choose not to get the pool, you may be losing a chance to increase value to your home. Take a look at our comparison list below to get a better idea if a pool is the right choice for you.

Pros

  • You can swim without going anywhere.
  • Additional space to have fun with family
and friends, and a great conversation piece.
  • A pool will add value to your house.
  • Added aesthetic appeal to your home.
  • You will have an additional area for fitness.
  • Improve your children’s swimming skills at home.

Cons

  • Your water bill will be higher and you
    may lose yard space.
  • Some states require a fence around your pool.
  • You have to clean and maintain it.
  • You may have to tell your neighbors no.
  • You have to supervise children.
  • Time must be dedicated to prepping it in the
    summer and winter

The choice to invest in a swimming pool is one that takes much consideration and planning…pools are certainly not for everyone. But even if you choose not to get a pool, you must admit: “pool days” are fun for everyone!
