Thanksgiving: Custom and Creative Centerpiece Ideas

Posted by Elizabeth on November 23, 2011

If you’re like most homeowners, the thought of preparing a custom themed table for Thanksgiving may send your head spinning. When the holiday’s approach, we find ourselves rushing around like mad men to get our custom homes and dining areas ready for the special occasion. Luckily, in our world of DIY projects, there are countless solutions to your “plain jane” table dilemma.

Indian Corn Centerpiece

A simple centerpiece solution is to spice up an old cylinder vase. Gather enough Indian corn to cover the exterior of your vase. Place glue dots near the top and bottom on one side of an ear of corn. Press the corn wrap around the vase. Continue this process until the ears of corn cover the way around the vase, placing the tops of the ears close together. Grab a piece of your favorite Thanksgiving ribbon to tie around the center of the corn, tie a bow and voilà!- a great looking centerpiece that took less than 20 minutes!

Spiced-Up Candles

Take a few minutes to look through your cabinets, closets and storage to find old glassware or candle holders. Gather an array of shapes and sizes. Clean the glassware and place a pillar or votive candle in each, depending on their size. Fill the glassware with nuts: walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts or anything you choose. Arrange the glassware in the center of your table for a simple, understated, yet classic, centerpiece. The best part is that you can pour the nuts into a bowl after dinner for everyone to enjoy!

As we gather to give thanks and enjoy time with family and friends, your Thanksgiving table will take center stage. If you haven’t decided what to put in the center of your table, try either of these suggestions! For more tips on holiday decorating and customizing your custom home, stay tuned!
